 DSO-MT Henry Phillips District 13

Henry Phillips

The District 13 member training staff is responsible for assisting unit SO's with the implementation of a quality member training program.

The Auxiliary offers its members a multitude of training opportunities.  Most training is accomplished the traditional way through Member Training Officers, mentoring, workshops, classes,  hands-on experience and self study. Much of the study material can now be downloaded from the internet and testing can be done in your own home, at your convenience, on-line, as well.

Additional training is offered through Class C Schools (known as "C" Schools).  They are also known as Short Term Resident Training.  These schools are usually one week or less and are paid for out of "training" funds.  You donate your time and the Coast Guard pays for the travel costs.

See the  Auxiliary C-School Portal for information about who is eligible to attend, how to apply, how to acquire orders, class schedules, etc.

CHECK OUT THE T-DIRECTORATE  WHAT'S NEW!

Go to this page above to see what the latest training changes and additions are in AUXCT Core Training, Risk Management training, the new AUX-04 C-School, AUXOP courses and requirements, and the Leadership Development Program 5 levels of competencies.

Leadership Levels Certificates with Requirements (shown as "Requirements Level _ Cert" in the lists of each of the 5 levels). You still need to email your finished competency certificates and any FEMA IS certificates to me as DSO-MT.  Once I verify completion, I will sign and email the certificate and other documents to DIRAUX to be entered into AUXDATA, a special signed completion certificate will be sent to each member that completes each Leadership Level's requirements.

C-SCHOOL FY 2024 COURSES

***All FY 2024 C-Schools are open for STTRs from any member for any course listed on the C-Schools Calendar if you meet the requirements. Those courses whose dates are in black are already in Direct Access. So get your STTR signed and to me ASAP if you need a funded space.***

NEW STEPS - GOING TO C-Schools

YN1 Poching can now see and register members for some of the earliest FY 2024 C-School courses in Direct Access to get travel orders. The YN1 wants all STTR's (Short Term Training Request Forms) sent to me first for screening and review. My email address: [email protected].

If there is a District 13 DSO related to that course, I send the STTR to him/her for approval and then it comes back to me as DSO-MT. If not, then I approve the STTRs. Then I send the STTRs to the YN1 and I also "CC" the appropriate District DSO to keep them aware of the STTR progress.

NEW STEPS TO A C-School Course - Click on this to see the whole document about the new steps to follow when applying for any C-School Course.

NO-COST ORDERS: FCs, please also send me an STTR for members living within 50 miles of a course for No-Cost Orders as basically almost the same data is required to cut the orders and to keep the POCs informed of who will need a seat and completion credit for the course. Please state in Block 19: "Only needs Directed to Duty or No Cost Orders." These orders cover the member for liability should something happen. I will call you on the phone because now I must send your DOB and SSN to the YN1 with the STTR. Do NOT put it on the STTR. An important issue here is if traveling by POV instead of flying, the YN1 needs to know that. The YN1 will then send the official TDY orders to the member and the member is good to go. Any changes will require a special amendment especially if the member finds that they cannot get to their home by midnight on the travel day(s) because of half day course endings and flights to their home area. Then they need to ask for an RON - remain overnight at the course hotel and fly out the next day amendment.

FUNDED ORDERS: Funded orders for members living more than 50 miles away from course location DO require an STTR. If the member lives 51 miles or over please go to Google maps or similar application and then list the miles between the member's home town/city and the city location of the course for which applying, i.e., "1,250 miles," in Block 19. Please follow the instructions on the 2nd page of the revised STTR Form 7059 in filling out the form. You can fill it out online on your electronic device. Forward your STTR to your FC for signature. Your FC will sign it and forward it to me. I will call you on the phone because now I must send your DOB and SSN to the YN1 with the STTR. Do NOT put that information on your STTR.

DROP OUTS & CANCELLATIONS: If a member decides not to go to a course at any time in the No-Cost or Funded Order process but especially once accepted on the published course roster, it is important that they inform the local district sponsoring POC (Point of Contact) for the course, the District 13 YN1, and the District 13 DSO-MT.

ALL MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE: If you need assistance in filling out your STTR (Short Term Training Request) ask your FSO-MT and/or your FC. Follow the instructions on Page 2. Then print it and send or give it to your FC for approval. The FC then sends it to me as DSO-MT. After I review it for completeness of information, availability of the course, and alignment of individual's position as elected or staff officer with the course, I then forward it to YN1 Wood.
