In-Person / On Ground Classes for 2025
The in-person / on ground classes for 2025 are scheduled and can be found on the Training website - C School Courses Calendar.
Funded quotas require:
- That the member live outside a 50 miles radius from the training venue. DSO-MTs will verify that the member does indeed live outside the 50 mile radius and meets the eligibility requirements before the STTR is submitted
- That an STTR be submitted through the Chain of Leadership (COL) prior its to submission to DIRAUX. Once it is determined that the member meets the eligibility requirements, the STTR will be entered into Direct Access.
If you reside within the 50 mile radius, please contact Peter Graham and submit a request for non-reimbursable orders via your Chain of Leadership (COL) as orders are required for attendance.
If you wish additional information or have additional questions, please contact Peter Graham, AMLOC-05A Branch Chief, at [email protected] .
1. The Auxiliary Mid-Level Officer Course (AMLOC) is designed for mid-level appointed and elected Auxiliarists utilizing the entire Senior Leadership Principles and Skills Course (SLPS) modified for the Auxiliary audience. These members are the individuals in the organization that provide direction and visions to groups or teams. They are responsible for developing and communicating the context of direction down the chain to first line supervisors, work groups, and individual workers.
2. Emphasis is placed on classroom discussion of various leadership concepts and models. Students should use this knowledge so that they can better lead the workgroups under them to understand and buy into organizational mission and goals. The course objective is to develop skills in the following areas: communicating for understanding, exerting a positive influence over others, creating an environment which encourages continued motivation in times of change, recognizing diversity and its value, recognizing generational differences and the need for appropriate leadership techniques, getting the job done while taking care of your people, transitioning from executing vision to developing vision, transitioning from tactical to strategic thinking, recognizing conflict resolution principles and positive communication skills, recognizing synergy as an advantage to teams, achieving ethical fitness in leadership management, and recognizing team-building structures and group dynamics.
3. The course is taught in 3 day sessions at district locations arranged by a host Point of Contact (POC). The course has been developed around the US Coast Guard Senior Leadership Principle and Skills (SLPS) material based upon the work of James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner and their THE LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE material. The leaders that we hope to attract to the sessions are the following in Priority Ranking-
Priority 1 (P1)- DCDR; VDCDR; FC (Second year in office)
Priority 2* (P2*)- FC First Year; DVC; DSO; VFC * MUST have AUXLAMS Completion Certificate.
Priority 3* (P3*)- All other Auxiliarists with AUXLAMS Completion Certificate. *MUST have AUXLAMS Completion Certificate.
4. If interested in the Coast Guard C-School funded (AFC-56) classes, submit a Short Term Training Request (STTR) with a copy of your AUXLAMS Completion Certificate via your Chain of Leadership (COL) to be considered for a class. Ask your highest point in the COL to submit your STTR to your DIRAUX for entry into Direct Access (DA), this is important since the classes fill fast once they are listed in Direct Access. They are now listed in Direct Access so you can inform your COL to forward your STTR to your DIRAUX so your name can entered for the class. There are some non-AFC-56 funded seats available in all of classes if you do not get a AFC-56 funded seat. If interested in a non-AFC-56 funded seat contact the class POC directly about getting a seat, you will be required to obtain no cost District generated orders to attend.
Member wishing to attend AMLOC must have a priority of P1 or P2 ranking and submit their Certificate for AUXLAMS completion with the STTR to DIRUAX. P3* will be considered on a case by case basis for funded quotas. A funded student will need to prove they live a distance greater than 51 miles from the training venue. Use MAPQuest to get the distance from your home to the training location if you live within the general area of the training. If a student wishes to attend the session but lives within 51 miles of the training site they will need to do so as “local/ non-funded”.
ALL applicants must submit a STTR and AUXLAMS Completion Certificate through the Chain of Leadership and Management as well as submitting a copy of the STTR and the AUXLAMS Completion Certificate to Peter Graham
[email protected].
