Communications / Radio

D5SR Communications promotes, oversees and assists multiple radio telecommunications programs for the district.
  • Training that result in qualified telecommunications operators (TCO) and AUXCOM PQS. Assist USCG stations where needed in developing communications Watchstanders.
  • Establish Auxiliary Communications Units (ACU) both HF & VHF that are used for a network of approved fixed land, mobile, and direction-finding stations to service the USCG, AUX surface and air operations.
  • Supplement the USCG communications as required.
  • Provide District level communications as required.
  • Provide emergency communications in disaster situations.

Specific Communication Programs are:
  • Coordinating authorized Auxiliary activities in support of Coast Guard Operations ("operational communications")
  • Augmenting the Coast Guard communications system, when required ("contingency communications")
  • Communicating urgent matters of official Auxiliary business ("operational communications") Assisting national resources in time of disaster ("contingency communications")
  • Training and qualifying Auxiliary telecommunications operators, Coast Guard communications watchstanders
  • Assisting the Director of Auxiliary (DIRAUX) in inspecting and qualifying Auxiliary radio facilities (stations).
