D8 AUXILIARY PADDLECRAFT (AUXPAD) PROGRAM

The primary mission of the Auxiliary Paddlecraft (AUXPAD) program is to extend boating safety outreach, promote life jacket wear, and promote operator compliance with Coast Guard required safety equipment within the paddlecraft community. The AUXPAD program is based on two policies. The District Eight policy, which is below with the accompanying Personal Qualification Standards (PQS) book, and the Commandant Instruction which can be found on the Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) website along with other great paddlecraft resources.

If you have any more questions about the paddlecraft program, please reach out to your regional coordinator below:

The District Eight AUXPAD Instruction necessitates Vessel Examiners (VEs) conducting Vessel Safety Checks (VSC) on paddlecrafts to receive additional training on these unique vessels. Below is the District Eight Course for VE. This presentation materials meets the condition established in District Eight Instruction for VSC by VEs. All materials should be presented AS IS with no changes. If you have recommendations, updates, or notice errors that need to be addressed, please contact the regional AUXPAD Coordinator.

The District Eight Course for VEs is designed to be given in two parts (Parts A and B). Each part or session should take around 50-60 mins. The presentation should be given by qualified VE with an Instructor (IT) qualification. However, it may also be taught by VEs without an IT qualification. If taught by a non IT qualified VE the member shall review workshop material with a qualified IT prior to delivering the workshop. The Flotilla Commander has the final say in the selection of the presenter and the duration of workshop (one or two settings or sessions). Below is a Lesson Plan Outline to assist the presenter in the delivery of the course.
