United States Coast Guard Auxiliary

Division 2- Hiawatha 085-02

On behalf of Division 2  we would like to thank you for visiting our web page!

What We Do

We are proud to be part of the Eight Western Rivers District of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. We pride ourselves for being part of the largest volunteer organization in the Country. Our job is to be a force multiplier for the United States Coast Guard, assisting them in ways and places that are difficult for them to do. In many cases the boating publics only exposure to the Coast Guard is the Auxiliary. As USCG Auxiliarists we are a uniformed civilian force providing service and information to the boating community. We provide local Boater Safety Courses, provide safe boating literature, and conduct personal Vessels Safety Examines. In addition to land based services we provide on the water support. We provide safety patrols on a regular basis, looking for boaters that are in need of assistance, we support Regattas and Fire Work Displays providing safety patrols and encourage the wearing of life jackets for all boaters while they are on the water.

So if you enjoy the water, if you enjoy meeting new friends and enjoy fellowship, if you feel strongly about promoting Boating Safety, The Auxiliary is the place for you. No experience is necessary, we provide the training. All we need is you! If you have any questions we would love to hear from you.

Our History

Division 2 is proud of our rich history. The Auxiliary was founded in 1939 as the Coast Guard Reserve to support the Coast Guard during the war effort. The Auxiliary was officially separated from the Coast Guard Reserve by an act of Congress in 1942. Division 2 has four flotillas proudly serving the Hiawatha Valley: Winona since 1942; Rochester since 1946; La Crosse since 1994; and Prairie du Chien since 2010.

Our Area of Responsibility

Division 2 is primarily responsible for the area between Lock & Dam 3 in Red Wing, MN, and Lock & Dam 10 in Guttenberg, IA. Other waterways in the area of responsibility include the Chippewa River from downtown Eau Claire to the confluence with the Mississippi River; the Black River from Mile Marker 4 to the confluence with the Mississippi River; and Lake Lewis & Clark near Yankton, SD. The communities of service include Lake City, Winona, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Rochester, Mankato, Prairie du Chien, Yankton, and Sioux Falls.
