Established by Congress in 1939 under title 14, §§ 23 of the U.S. Code, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is Semper Paratus (Always Ready). We operate under the direct authority of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security via the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Auxiliary's internally operating levels are broken down into four organizational levels: Flotilla, Division, District and National.

Flotilla Mission: To promote and improve Recreational Boating Safety, to provide trained crews and facilities to augment the Coast Guard and enhance safety and security of out ports, waterways and coastal regions, to support Coast Guard operational, administrative and logistical requirements.
Flotilla Vision: To be the preeminent source for boating safety, education, and mission support to the South Sound while providing training and educational opportunities to members that enhance our ability to support the mission and improve operational skills.
Flotilla Membership:
2. At least 17 and a half years old (no upper age limit)
3. Be able to pass a background check
There are no physical requirements or physical fitness tests or limitations. Prior military or boating experience is not required, nor do you have to own a vessel to qualify for membership. In fact, we have numerous opportunities for service that don't require any proximity to the water at all. Any Auxiliarist, regardless of physical limitations, may participate in training to achieve certification in a non operational or operational position.
