JOIN THE U.S. COAST GUARD AUXILIARY

Are you ready to become part of an elite volunteer force dedicated to serving our nation’s waterways? The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the all-volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard, created by an Act of Congress in 1939. With over 32,000 members, we support the Coast Guard in non-military and non-law enforcement missions across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam.

Our Mission

Safety Patrols and Search & Rescue:

  • Conduct safety patrols on local waterways.
  • Assist in search and rescue operations.

Boating Safety Education:

Why the Auxiliary Matters

The Coast Guard considers the Auxiliary its primary resource for recreational boating safety outreach and prevention. We provide essential support to the active-duty Coast Guard in numerous mission areas:

  • Assist in inspections of uninspected passenger vessels.
  • Provide training resources for air and sea operations.
  • Engage in environmental protection and homeland security duties.

In inland areas, where the majority of U.S. recreational boating occurs, the Auxiliary is often the sole Coast Guard presence.

Become a Force Multiplier

Our Auxiliarists volunteer over 4.5 million hours annually, completing nearly 500,000 missions. With nearly two dozen qualifications available, there’s a role for everyone willing to invest time and training to be Semper Paratus: Always Ready.
