Welcome to the Home page of Flotilla 26-6, Sault Ste. Marie ,Michigan. Members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary are the volunteer arm of the United States Coast Guard. Flotilla 26-6 serves under the direction of the Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie. We are part of Division 26 and are assigned the area around Sault Ste. Marie. We assist The United States Coast Guard in the waters of The Upper St. Mary's River and the Eastern Section of Whitefish Bay in Lake Superior. Pictured above is an aerial view of the Soo Locks through which ships travel between Lake Superior and the other Great Lakes. These locks are the busiest in the world with over 12,000 ships passing each year. This volume has been a constant even though the locks are closed from January of each year until March. The Sault Ste Marie Flotilla is proud of its volunteer work in the areas of Recreational Boating Safety, Boating Education and Homeland Security Support for the United States Coast Guard. We are also responsible for maintaining a large display at the SS Valley Camp Museum, maintaining this display is a honor for the Flotilla as it reminds that the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has been a vital part of the History of Shipping on the Great Lakes. To find out more about SS Valley Camp click here Our Flotilla meets monthly at the Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm.
