Welcome to the District 9CR Web Site

Welcome to our website! Ninth Central Region covers the majority of the 4,530 miles of U.S shoreline on the Great Lakes. Units can be found in five states (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio). Over 750 dedicated volunteers serve the largest group of recreational waters in the United States and helps ensure safe transport of over $85 million in commerce carried by lake freighters. We do this in collaboration with Coast Guard Sectors Sault Ste Marie and Detroit.

Under the direct authority of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through and by the direction of the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, the Auxiliary’s operating levels are broken down into four organizational levels: National, District, Division, and Flotilla.

9TH CENTRAL REGION MISSION STATEMENT

Training and timely recognition will be used to increase Auxiliary value and skill levels to better serve the Active Duty in the areas of Response, Prevention, and administrative assistance. To reverse the downward safety trends by the public observed since the beginning of the Pandemic, recreational boating safety missions will be enhanced and improved.

9TH CENTRAL REGION VISION STATEMENT

The 9th Central Region will foster readiness, resourcefulness, and resiliency to promote a culture of safety while continuing to retain value to the Coast Guard and the boating public through continuous training, exceptional mission performance, and servant leadership.

9TH CENTRAL REGION WATCHWORDS

Readiness - Like the Coast Guard Active Duty, the Auxiliary remains always ready.  Therefore, we will promote esprit décor through training, uniform appearance, and recruitment to ensure readiness to serve.  We must continually educate ourselves and train others on Coast Guard Values of Honor, Respect, & Devotion to Duty.  As Coast Guard Auxiliarists we lead by example both professionally and in appearance. We need to be looking at tomorrow’s Coast Guard; we need to be visionary!! We are part of Team Coast Guard; thus, our action in properly wearing the Coast Guard uniform is a requirement of duty and reflects highly on the Coast Guard.  The Coast Guard is changing, and we must change with it to ensure readiness. To sustain the Coast Guard Auxiliary for years to come, we must actively recruit our future leaders to take the Coast Guard Auxiliary into the next decade.

Resourcefulness – Napoleon Hill stated, “A resourceful person will always make an opportunity fit his or her needs.”  The COVID-19 pandemic stopped all Coast Guard Auxiliary activities throughout the 9th District. This action forced us to utilize our experiences and capabilities to retain our value by employing “thinking out of the box” concepts to assist the Coast Guard. Within Flotillas, across Divisions or States apart, we will continue to utilize and share our best practices to meet and respond to today’s Coast Guard needs but do so safely and within Coast Guard guidance.

Resiliency – These last three years significantly impacted the Coast Guard Auxiliary in a challenging way, and we tackled it head-on.  It forced us to recover quickly by devising different ways to meet Coast Guard’s call to service.  Beth Moore said, “You cannot keep doing the same thing, the same way, and keep expecting something different to happen.” While working within the confines of our guiding documents, we will improve our value to the Coast Guard by employing “thinking out of the box” ideas to encourage creativity to improve how we deliver services to others and operate within 9th Central.
