Have you had your VE?

The sun is starting to stick around longer, weekends are getting warmer and flowers are starting to blood. You know what that means? Its almost time for boating season here in the Ohio Valley! So while you’re making your spring check list, wash the boat, wax the boas, locate coolers, untangle ski line, make sure you add Contact Coast Guard Auxiliary for a Vessel Safety Check.
How much is this going to cost me?A Coast Guard Auxiliary VSC is a courtesy safety check of your boat to insure you meet all State and Federal rules. Even if something is found that’s not in line with the state or federal laws you will be notified and no paperwork is filed with any law enforcement agency.
What do I get out of it?Boats that pass the examination are awarded a distinctive VSC Decal that alerts the Coast Guard, Harbor Patrol, and other law-enforcement agencies that your boat was found to be in full compliance with all Federal and State boating laws. Frequently, such agencies will not detain or board boats displaying a current-year decal that are otherwise operating safely.
What if I don’t pass?If your boat does not pass, no report is filed. Instead, you are provided a written report that aids you in correcting any discrepancies noted. Often, a quick trip to the local marine is all that is necessary to obtain missing safety items and easily pass a re-inspection. And if you show your examiner-signed VSC report, you may receive a discount on your missing or discrepant items.
