Watch Video:   "BORN READY" A Tribute To The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary

Welcome to the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-4, District Eight, Coastal Region,  “The Guardians of the Gulf”.

As the “Volunteer Reserves” within District 8 Coastal Region, Sector Mobile, our Flotilla’s 38+ members receive significant specialized training and testing to operate seamlessly as part of “Team Coast Guard”. Our uniformed skilled men and women volunteers are part of the largest and most highly trained maritime assistance organization in the United States. We serve our communities, fellow citizens and our Nation proudly!

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939 to serve as the uniformed, volunteer component of the US Coast Guard. The legal authority for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary can be found at Title 14, USC § 822 which authorizes: “The purpose of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary is to assist the Coast Guard as authorized by the Commandant, in performing any Coast Guard function, power, duty, role, mission, or operation authorized by law”. As an integral component of the US Coast Guard, we operate under the US Department of Homeland Security.

Flotilla 1-4 supports Station Destin and Sector Mobile activities. We are also called to support other areas as circumstances necessitate. Our area of responsibility is in the western Florida Panhandle, stretching from the Navarre Bridge eastward to Inlet Beach. You may have seen us patrolling the area waters, conducting vessel examinations or teaching boating safety classes. We are active in the Gulf of Mexico, Choctawhatchee Bay, Intercoastal Waterway and Santa Rosa Sound, offering assistance and friendly support to boaters, other agencies and community events.

Our primary mission is promoting and supporting recreational boating safety. We provide Public Boating Safety Education, Vessel Safety Examinations, Dealer Visitations, Standing Watch at USCG Station Destin, Maritime Domain Awareness, Surface Operations, Air Operations, Marine Safety, Pollution Investigation, Aids to Navigation inspections and much more. Our Flotilla members have trained in specialty skills including boat crew, captains (Coxswains), hazardous materials experts, communications operators, IT specialists, aircraft observers, aircraft pilots, retail dealer visitor specialists, boating safety instructors, construction project management, food service specialists, translators and more.

Our monthly Flotilla meetings are held the 2nd Saturday of each month beginning at 9:00 AM at U.S. Coast Guard Station Destin and via teleconference.  Please feel free us for more information about becoming an active volunteer contributor to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the “Volunteer Reserves” of the U.S. Coast Guard.

We are Semper Paratus, always ready!

Commander, Flotilla 81-1-4
