The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is an all-volunteer organization that was formed in 1939 to support the US Coast Guard. For more than 70 years the Auxiliary has worked side-by-side with the active duty and reserves in the US Coast Guard.

Our Flotilla belongs to Division 2 in District 1 (Southern Region).
Our Area of Responsibility is centered on Sandy Hook.

Sandy Hook is a 6 1/2 mile long barrier peninsula that includes miles of guarded ocean beaches for swimming and other beaches for fishing, as well as hiking trails, salt marshes and the historic site of Fort Hancock. The tip of the Hook overlooks the entrance to New York Harbor and is the northern point along the New Jersey Shore.

The members of Flotilla 22 patrol the waters surrounding Sandy Hook and the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers and are ready at a moments notice to respond to any emergency. The members of Flotilla 22 live by the words Semper Paratus (Always Ready).

Our Flotilla works side-by-side with US Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook  to supplement their operational missions.  We are authorized to participate in all Coast Guard missions except law enforcement and  military operations.  We provide all training required for our  missions, based on standardized US Coast Guard training qualification standards.

We actively perform several major missions including:
  •   Communications watchstanding at Station Sandy Hook
  •   Communications watchstanding with the Atlantic Strike Team
  •   AUX marine patrols in Sandy Hook and Raritan Bay and the adjacent major rivers
  •   AUX PWC patrols
  •   Operation Clear Channel support for Sector New York
  •   Crew augmentation on Coast Guard rescue boats and cutters
  •   Maritime Domain Awareness and Homeland Security patrols
  •   Emergency Medical and Health Services support for Station Sandy Hook and Sector New York
