Keeping Long Island Safe With the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary

Boat Fire in South BayFlotilla 01 Ready For Patrol

Who We Are?

Flotilla 1-1 has been operating from Babylon Village Hall for more than 50 years. Throughout its history, the Flotilla has been dedicated to Public Education and Coast Guard support. Our Operational Facilities (Search and Rescue vessels) are under the control of US Coast Guard Station Fire Island and perform Search and Rescue in an area greater than 800 square miles. This area includes the offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Great South Bay from Massapequa to Smith Point.

What Can You Do?

As a member of the all-volunteer Auxiliary, you will be able to choose from many exciting opportunities for service. You can be challenged to learn, train and excel in areas and at levels you never thought you were capable of, all at your own pace and in your own time. And, you will be formally recognized by the Auxiliary, the USCG and our country for your accomplishments.

Help save lives through instruction in the classroom, Vessel Safety Checks, or on-the water operations. Increase your skills by taking advantage of advanced training in surface operations, leadership, or one of the many courses available through the Auxiliary and Coast Guard. You can greatly enhance your boating skills, and once qualified, you can use your own boat to train new members.

Support the Coast Guard by becoming qualified to serve at U.S.C.G. Station Fire Island in radio watch standing, marine environmental protection, Homeland Security, Search & Rescue, and other operational and administrative support. Enjoy the company of fellow auxiliary members during training missions, at meetings or social events.

Sharpen your leadership skills - Bring your leadership skills to the Coast Guard Auxiliary, or let us teach you how to be a great leader.

We Are ALWAYS Ready...

The Coast Guard’s philosophy is to be SEMPER PARATUS (ALWAYS READY) against all threats and all hazards. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is an integral part of that philosophy and the Coast Guard Forces. We conduct safety patrols on local waterways, assist the Coast Guard with homeland security duties, teach boating safety classes, conduct free vessel safety checks for the public, as well as many other activities. The Auxiliary has members in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa and Guam.
