Leadership Bios
Division Commander Tim Howell
Mr. Howell is Commander (DCDR) of the Cape Cod Division 11, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary serving Cape Cod, Massachusetts and the Islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
He joined the Auxiliary’s Nauset Flotilla in August of 2020 and holds or has held the appointed positions of Flotilla Staff Officer Communication Services (FSO-CS), Member Training (FSO-MT), Operations (FSO-OP) and Auxiliary Unit Coordinator - USCG Station Provincetown (AUC).
He previously held the elected offices of Vice Commander (VCDR) of the Cape Cod Division, and Flotilla Commander (FC) and Vice Flotilla Commander (VFC) of the Nauset Flotilla.
Mr. Howell brings extensive experience in leadership and training within the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, complemented by a strong professional background in corporate leadership roles with a leading participant in the energy industry. His dedication to service is evident in his Auxiliary service and other volunteer activities, which underscore his commitment to community engagement.
Beyond his volunteer efforts, Mr. Howell embraces recreational activities that allow him to connect with nature, particularly boating and fishing.
Division Vice Commander Jeff Thomas
Mr. Thomas is Vice Commander (VCDR) of The Cape & Islands Division 11.
He joined the Auxiliary in 2004 in Division 10 in Central Mass, transferring to the Cape Division to the Woods Hole Flotilla in 2010. In addition to VDCR, he holds the appointed District positions of Auxiliary Sector Coordinator (ASC) for Sector Southeastern New England, Auxiliary Unit Coordinator (AUC)– Cutter Hammerhead (AUC) and Flotilla Operations Officer (FSO-OP).
He previously held the elected offices of Flotilla Commander (FC) and Vice Flotilla Commander (VFC), and the appointed positions of Division and Flotilla Secretary (SO-SR, FSO-SR), Division and Flotilla Operations Officer (SO-OP, FSO-OP), and Flotilla Computer Services (FSO-CS).
Mr. Thomas is an Operational Auxiliarist having completed the AUXOP advanced training program and is a certified coxswain, radio Watchstander and Sector Gate Guard Watchstander.
He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and retired from EMC Corporation in 2015 after a 36-year career in the computer industry as a technical project manager. During his down time, he is a Director and a Facilities Manager for the non-profit managing the Nobska Lighthouse property in Woods Hole.
