Flotilla 10-2 is in Division 10, US Coast Guard Auxiliary District 1 Northern Region (1NR).
WHAT DO WE DO?
We are a group of volunteers who work with the U.S. Coast Guard to promote safe boating on the ocean, lakes, and rivers. Our main focus is on helping people stay safe while enjoying the water.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
We run safety and navigation classes in the spring and fall, based on demand. These classes can be one session or several sessions long and there is a small fee to cover the cost of materials. If you take and pass the "About Boating Safely" (ABS) or "Boating Skills & Seamanship" (BS&S) classes, you’ll meet the boating safety education requirements for all states, territories, and Canadian provinces through our partnership with National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). Please click here to find an upcoming class.
VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS

Do you have a canoe, kayak, paddle boat, jet ski, motorboat, sailboat, or any other kind of recreational boat? A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is a free service that ensures your boat has all the safety equipment required by federal and state laws.
The VSC is part of the Coast Guard’s Recreational Boating Safety Program, which aims to prevent:
- Loss of life
- Injuries
- Property damage
- Environmental harm
But a VSC is more than just a checklist! It’s also a chance to talk with safety experts and learn how to stay safe on the water through a face-to-face conversation.
Boats that pass the inspection receive a safety decal for the year, which shows they meet safety requirements. Plus, passing a VSC might qualify you for a discount on boat insurance.
During late spring and summer, you can often find us at local boat ramps offering free vessel safety checks. Please click here for more details.
