Welcome to the Vessel Examinations Department
Both the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the United States Power Squadrons have certified vessel examiners who will perform a free Vessel Safety Check ("VSC") at your boat, at a time of mutual convenience. There is no charge, and no consequences if you don't pass. Our goal is simply to help make boating as safe as possible for you, your family and your friends, through education. Personal pleasure craft ONLY*.
*Please note that a Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is for personal pleasure craft only. This site is not meant to be used to request inspections on commercial boats such as the Six-Pack or Commercial Fishing Vessels. If this is what you are looking for, contact the closest US Coast Guard unit for assistance in getting an inspection. This link will help you find the closest unit: www.uscg.mil.

In a nutshell, lights for sailboats are required to have larger vertical arcs of visibility so as to remain visible when the boat is heeled
