Recreational Vessel
If
you are onboard someone's personal vessel at their request and no one
paid or gave any other "consideration" (i.e., exchange of gifts,
requirements to purchase a product to get the boat ride) you are on a
recreational vessel.
Even recreational vessel should comply with Federal and State safety regulations. A caring vessel owner and host should make sure to be in compliance before inviting their guest. Look for the the USCG/ USCG Aux Vessel Safety Check Decal.
