Uninspected Passenger Vessel

This type vessel is an unispected passenger vessel. An uninspected passenger vessel should be operated by an individual that holds an appropriate Coast Guard issued license for an operator of an uninspected passenger vessel (OUPV), or an endorsement for a higher gross tonnage. A Merchant Mariner credential is in a booklet form (similar to a passport). See photo above for an example of an operator holding both a OUPV endorsement and a 100 gross ton endorsement.

Uninspected does not mean Unregulated

Though not mandatory many UPV operators will voluntarily have their vessel and operations inspected so they may be awarded and show the UPV Inspection sticker. This Sticker will allow customers to see at a glance that the vessel has complied with safety and operational regulations.

** If you have additional questions, or if the rental you're on does not match the description seen here, you can report the discrepancy through CGIS Tips or call US Coast Guard Sector Mobile Command Center at (281) 441-5971.
