Opportunities

 We have numerous opportunities for members to become involved in all aspects of the Auxiliary:

  •  Aviation:  Serve as Observer, Air Crew, Copilot, First Pilot or Aircraft Commander and participate in a number of mission areas including: Logistics, Aids to Navigation, Marine Safety and Pollution, Port Over Flights, Waterways and Coastal Security, and Search and Rescue.
  • Surface Operations: Serve as Boat Crew, Coxswain, Personal Watercraft Operator and participate in a number of mission areas including:  Logistics, Aids to Navitation, Marine Safety and Environmental Protection, Waterways and Coastal Security, and Search and Rescue.
  • Coast Guard Support: Augment the health care capabilities of existing Coast Guard clinics and potentially release active duty health care personnel for operational response or deployment in the areas of Health Services, Food Services, Interpreter Corps, Clergy Support, and Ombudsman.
  • Marine Safety & Environmental Protection: Help promote clean waterways through marine pollution awareness programs that help to recognize, protect and assess the environment.
  • Navigation Systems: Support and augment the Coast Guard’s navigation systems program by verifying the positions and characteristics of aids-to-navigation and bridges.  
  • Public Affairs: Help get the word out.  Web Design, Photography, Newsletters, Public Speaking, Represent the Coast Guard at Special Events (Boat Shows).
  • Public Education: Teach courses on boating safety, navigation, and seamanship to recreational boaters of all ages.
  • Telecommunications:  Become a fully qualified Auxiliary Telecommunications Operator and operate Auxiliary Radio Nets that help to augment Coast Guard operations. Once qualified, there are opportunities to serve as a Watchstander at a CG Station.
  • Vessel Safety Checks: Give free safety checks to recreational and commercial fishing vessels.
  • Program Visitor: Visit businesses to discuss upcoming events (vessel exams, public education courses) and offer professional assistance.
  • Recruiting: Build a stronger Coast Guard team through promoting awareness of career opportunities for service.
  • Administrative Support: Assist the Coast Guard in areas such as computer operations and finance.
