Cap Device
Cap Device. The prescribed cap device for all members and officers of the Auxiliary was a modified reproduction of the Auxiliary emblem (without the words “Semper Paratus”) stamped on gold colored metal, except that the space not occupied by lettering “UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY” within the two concentric circles was inlaid with hard-fired dark blue enamel. The device is slightly curved under from left to right to fit the curvature of the cap front. The dimensions are:
"From the top of each anchor ring to the tip of each anchor crown, the device measures two inches. Distance across outer edge of superimposed circle is 1/20 inches. Space between two concentric circles is approximately 0.17 inch. Background for the shield is 0.75 inch in diameter. Shield is 0.60 inch in height, 0.57 inch across the widest part of the striped portion and 0.47 inch across top of chief. Lettering is approximately 0.10 inch in height. The device is fitted at the center with a threaded post of brass attached with hard solder and fitted with a thumb nut. A pin pointed brass prong is soldered to the back of the upper end of the shank of each anchor." - (From 1962 Auxiliary Manual, CG-305)
Cap
The Auxiliary cap was the same design as the combination cap worn by officers of the Coast Guard with plain black visor, the prescribed Auxiliary cap device, one-half inch black patent leather chin strap and Auxiliary 24-line, gilt-retaining buttons. Incumbent elected and authorized appointed officers wore one-half inch gold thread, lace chin strap. Past officers, excepting past national commodore and past district commodore, replaced their gold-lace chin strap with ½ inch black patent-leather chin strap when their term of office or appointment expired. - (From 1962 Auxiliary Manual)
