THE COMMANDANT OF THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD WASHINGTON 20593

    NOV 26 2019

The Commandant of the United States Coast Guard
takes pleasure in presenting the
COAST GUARD MERITORIOUS TEAM COMMENDATION to:

FLOTILLA 8-7 POINT ARENA FUEL TEAM POINT ARENA, CALIFORNIA

for service as set forth in the following

            CITATION:

"For exceptionally meritorious service from December 2017 to November 2019, in the extraordinary upkeep of the Coast Guard helicopter pad and fueling facility at Point Arena, CA. Point Arena hosts the only coastal source of jet fuel between San Francisco and Humboldt Bay's area of responsibility. Your efforts maintaining those facilities and equipment were critical in Sector's ability to complete numerous Coast Guard missions encompassing hoist training, coastal fishery enforcement and monitoring, and Search and Rescue. The POINT ARENA FUEL TEAM invested over190 hours a year, meticulously maintaining the $100,000 facility. Tasks included the detail-oriented recirculation, sampling, and testing of fuel to ensure a continuous state of readiness. Understanding the significant ramifications contaminated fuel can have on the aircraft and its crew, the POINT ARENA FUEL TEAM took pride ensuring the fuel was maintained to the highest levels of aviation standards. As the resident experts on the fueling system, they trained numerous flight crews on the operating procedures of the system. Over the course of two years they volunteered over 416 labor hours, supported over 58 aircraft fueling evolutions, delivered over 9,860 gallons of jet fuel, and staffed an on-call team ready to support operational and training missions anytime, day or night.  Their   dedication and willingness saved Sector Humboldt Bay over $62,000 in travel costs and over 1,300 hours of travel time. Additionally, they completed minor structural projects on site, to include emergency power operations during severe storms and wildland fires providing vital fuel to aircrews. The dedication, pride, and professionalism displayed by the POINT ARENA FUEL TEAM are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary."

The Operational Distinguishing Device is authorized.

 For the Commandant,
G. T. Fuller, Captain

U.S. Coast Guard Commander
U.S. Coast Guard  Sector Humboldt Bay
