Flotilla 61 Recognized by City of Newport Beach
Flotilla 6-1 has been recognized by the City of Newport Beach! Past Flotilla Commander Paul Stephan led a group of Flotilla 6-1 members, known as the Map Team, to create one of the most popular maps of Newport Harbor, according to the City Harbormaster. The map has been printed and distributed by the City and various commercial entities in the harbor.
The map front side (see links below) shows important features in the harbor as edited and verified by members of the Flotilla 6-1 Map Team, ATON (Aids To Navigation) Verifiers, and Operations Team members. The back side was created entirely by the Map Team from resources provided and approved by Federal and State agencies, and includes critical safety information such as regulatory buoys, life jackets, sound signals, and a lot of other important information. Also included are photos of important Safety Providers such as the Orange County Sheriff Department boat, the Newport Beach Lifeguard boat, the Newport Beach Harbormaster boat, and of course, the US Coast Guard Cutter Narwhal.
