 Chet Willams

Welcome to the DSO-HR page. My name is Chester "Chet" Williams, and I am honored to serve as the current DSO-HR. If you ever have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to me.

With a background in law enforcement and the medical field, I retired after dedicating 21 years to the Alaska Department of Corrections. Before that, I worked as a Nationally Registered Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist, and farmer, and I have a BS in Occupational Education.

There are numerous pathways to success in HR, and we encourage you to explore and blend these pathways to chart your course to success.
Here are some initial steps to guide you:

  • Read Up: Begin by familiarizing yourself with the manuals and documents relevant to the HR office.
  • Mentoring: Seek guidance from the outgoing officer to acclimate to your new role. Consider organizing a handover meeting to discuss processes and procedures within your Flotilla, Division, and District. Review your job description and plans with the outgoing officer, and solicit mentoring from previous HR members.
  • Contact Your DSO: Establishing a strong working relationship with the DSO is crucial. Reach out to them to understand their role and gather local insights.
  • Engage with Flotilla Leadership: Understand the reporting expectations of your Flotilla Commander and Vice Flotilla Commander. Attend staff meetings to expand your knowledge base.
  • Connect with Fellow HR Officers: Collaborate with HR officers from other flotillas, seek guidance from District Staff Officers, and learn from your predecessors.
  • Call for Help When Needed: Utilize online resources and don't hesitate to seek assistance when faced with challenges. Remember, effective communication within the unit is key to resolving issues.

I look forward to supporting you in your journey as an HR officer. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require assistance.
Best regards,
Chester "Chet" Williams
