Diversity and inclusion are at the forefront of many organizations today.  But what does diversity and inclusion mean and what is our flotilla doing about it?  Ferris State University defines diversity and inclusion as follows:

"Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.”

“Inclusion is involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized. An inclusive university promotes and sustains a sense of belonging; it values and practices respect for the talents, beliefs, backgrounds, and ways of living of its members.";

One way our flotilla is addressing diversity is by having appointed a staff officer as our diversity lead. Our FSO-DV provides a report on diversity at our monthly meetings will host training on diversity. We also can address diversity and inclusion by raising awareness. This page provides links to both internal and external resources regarding diversity and inclusion.

 International Women’s Day

by Nancy Peterson, FSO-DV

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with first IWD gatherings in 1911. The 2021 theme for IWD is "Women in Leadership:  Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world"
