Legislation passed in 2019 called Brianna’s Law, will require that all operators of motorized craft – regardless of age - complete an approved boating safety class by 2025 (Not required for those who are renting boats).

 

The requirements to complete a class are based on age and will be phased in over a five year period beginning on January 1, 2020.

 

Those born on or  after:               must complete a course by:

January 1, 1993                          2020

January 1, 1988                          2022

January 1, 1983                          2023

January 1, 1978                          2024

All motor boat operators             2025

regardless of age

 

The previous 120-day grace period for new motor boat buyers is no longer in effect.
