Welcome to the Diversity Awareness webpage of the USCG Auxiliary, District Eight Coastal Region. Diversity means acknowledging, understanding, accepting, valuing, and celebrating the variety of characteristics that make each of us unique. By valuing our differences, we strengthen our commonalities including a shared mission of service to our Nation. The USCG Auxiliary’s vision for diversity is: “The USCG Auxiliary will be recognized as the Volunteer Organization of Choice for American citizens interested in promoting recreational boating safety, security of America’s waterways and improved methods of educating the boating public. We will recruit, retain, train, and deploy a ready, diverse and highly-skilled volunteer work force to contribute to Coast Guard Auxiliary mission success.”

Leadership is encouraged to appoint individuals as SO-DVs and FSO-DVs to carry forward this vital message. Training sessions, materials, and resources are available to define, value, and optimize diversity at all levels. You are encouraged to contact DSO-DV Michael Smith [email protected] with questions. Additional materials are available at the National Diversity website at https://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=D-DEPT&category=diversity-resources.

TREASURE:  PAST.  PRESENT.  FUTURE

We treasure members that came before us, that laid the foundation for us to serve the American people and our guests.  We treasure the current members of the Auxiliary that are agile to the ever changing needs of the U.S. Coast Guard and our nation.  We treasure our future members, by forecasting their needs and readying the Auxiliary to pass our baton forward, just as those that came before us.
