Welcome to the International Affairs Web Site

¡Bienvenido! Bienvenue! Добро пожаловать! 歡迎! * مرحبا!

The International Affairs I-Directorate provides foreign language interpretation and translation services to the active duty US Coast Guard  and other US government agencies using the Auxiliary Interpreter Corps (AIC). The AIC is developed and maintained by the Qualifications Division.  All global assignments to missions are managed by the Deployment Division. The  Area Command Liaison Division helps  connect USCG units outside the continental USA (OCONUS) for linguist services, as well as any other USCG Auxiliary augmentation resources.

The other key activity of the I-Directorate is International Outreach. The International Outreach  Division helps other civilian volunteer organizations around the world build their capacity in search and rescue programs, recreational boating safety, maritime security, emergency and general management skills. This division conducts regular forums which allows the USCG Auxiliary and all of our international partners to share and learn from each other about our respective successful practices and programs.

All I-Directorate activities are assisted by the Support Division  in areas such as website and media communications, publications management, recruiting, and general program support.

The Interpreter Corps supports the U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, U.S. agencies, and the USCG Auxiliary by filling temporary active duty billets and providing foreign language services to bridge communication gaps for our members, with the public or during encounters with foreign parties.

The Corps' 350 Linguists offer their free services in more than 57 foreign languages to assist remotely (phone & video), but also in-person, face-to-face, for efficient communication, document translation, and verbal  interpretation to support operations such as search & rescue (SAR), IUU fishing, and AMIO patrols, CG investigations, conferences, as well as recruiting and training.

 International Outreach seal  INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH

The International Outreach (IO) Division builds relationships with international volunteer organizations on behalf of the USCG and Department of Homeland Security.

Engaged with partners in over 24 countries, IO aids in forming and growing volunteer maritime safety groups in order to promote global maritime security, recreational boating safety, and emergency management.
