The Training Division of the Public Affairs Directorate offers a myriad of training opportunities for members and officers of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. In order to better enable them to perform their jobs, we provide online learning resources, helpful tools, classes (web based and in person), and guides in order to produce quality Public Affairs Specialists. Our primary goal as members of the Training Division is to prepare members for interaction with the public while maintaining the highest integrity and standards of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. By training in public affairs and publication topics, our members will be able to successfully and confidently learn how to interact with the public and various types of media.

Dr. Brian Harte currently serves as the National Division Chief for Training for Public Affairs, Vice Flotilla Commander, and Flotilla Staff Officer for Diversity (FSO-DV) and Program Visitor (FSO-PV), for Flotilla 01-01 of the 9th Eastern Region District.Brian is also the Unit Officer for the Auxiliary University Program (AUP) at SUNY- Canton.

Brian has been a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarist since 2014. He holds several CGAUX certifications including: Instructor, Vessel Examiner, Marine Safety Specialist, Fingerprint Technician, Public Affairs Specialist 3, 2, and 1, and has earned the Recreational Boating Safety Device Award.

Professionally, Brian is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the State University of New York at Canton (SUNY-Canton). Brian has over 14 years experience teaching criminal justice and business students at both the college and university level. Additionally, he is an experienced Probation Administrator, Juvenile Probation Officer, and Juvenile Justice Trainer.

Brian has several academic achievements including a Ph.D. in Business Administration with an emphasis in management/ organizations, a Master of Criminal Justice Degree and a Bachelor of Social Work degree. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management. He currently holds several specialist certifications including, but not limited to: Government Forensic Accountant (ABGOV), Registered Forensic Investigator (RFI), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified in Homeland Security- Level IV (CHS IV), Certified National Threat Analyst (CNTA), and Intelligence Analyst Certified (IAC).
