Photography Class Schedule Overview

Eligible Attendees:
Any member of Team Coast Guard regardless of skill level. You can attend the classes live on the scheduled dates or you can view the recordings and PowerPoint presentations after the class session.  You can audit the class(es) for personal learning.  You can attend and participate in all of the scheduled/recorded classes, submit the homework assignments, and get a certificate of completion at the end of the course. There are 4 courses that were meant to be taken consecutively but they can be taken out fo sequence if you wish to take subjects a la carte without getting a certificate. 

 PA Photography Class 101

  • Session 1.1 - Improving contest success. Minor items that make a huge difference!
  • Session 1.2 - Telling a story. Focus viewer's attention.
  • Session 1.3 - Composition. Rule of thirds, near far.
  • Session 1.4 - Blue skies and bright eyes.

PA Photography Class 201

  • Session 2.1 - Using lighting to help the story. Repurposing old "FREE" stuff.
  • Session 2.2 - DIY rigs for getting the image.
  • Session 2.3 - Drama. Drawing the viewer into your image.
  • Session 2.4 - Setting the shot.

PA Photography Class 301

  • Session 3.1 - Conveying motion to evoke emotion!
  • Session 3.2 - Adding excitement to slow subjects.
  • Session 3.3 - Working with water.
  • Session 3.4 - Why faster isn't better. Helo's and high speed.

PA Photography Class 401

  • Session 4.1 - Portrait Power!
  • Session 4.2 - Debunking photography myths and learning the secret technical keys to a powerful photo.
  • Session 4.3 - Open lens and close your bank account.
  • Session 4.4 - Develop your portfolio, organize your photos, have fun and be creative.
To register:
You only have to register once for the entire series of classes and mentoring sessions. For those only seeking artistic improvement, you can attend the classes and mentoring session of your choice.  Here is the registration link:

A person attending a USCG Auxiliary Public Affairs event who does not wish to have their image recorded for distribution should make their wishes known to the photographer, and/or the event organizers, and/or contact USCG Auxiliary Public Affairs at USCGAUXPAPhotoClass@gmail.com in writing of his/her intentions and include a photograph.  USCG Auxiliary Public Affairs will use the photo for identification purposes and will hold it in confidence. 

By participating in a USCG Auxiliary Public Affairs event or by failing to notify USCGAUX PA, in writing, your desire to not have your photograph used by USCGAUX PA, you are agreeing to release, defend, hold harmless and indemnify USCGAUX PA from any and all claims involving the use of your picture or likeness. 

Any person or organization not affiliated with USCGAUX PA may not use, copy, alter or modify USCGAUX PA photograph, graphics, videography or other, similar reproductions or recordings without the advance written permission of an authorized designee from USCGAUX PA.
