The History Division  is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and promulgation of information and materials that pertain to events and persons important to the history of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  The national historian's staff collect and promulgate information that relates to national events, national officers, and members who have made historic contributions.  Materials collected include documents, photographs, and significant artifacts, such as uniforms, flags, commemorative items, etc.

Darin D. Lenz, Ph.D., serves as the Division Chief, History. Previously he served as the Branch Chief, History, 2015-2016, when the History Branch was part of the Community Relations Division. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he has worked in higher education for the past 18 years in a variety of staff and faculty positions at colleges and universities from the East Coast to the Midwest and the Pacific Northwest. Currently he serves as an Associate Professor of History at Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, California. His teaching areas include American history, early modern and modern European history, and world history. He is the author of over 30 articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews published in a variety of journals and edited volumes.

He earned his Ph.D. in History at Kansas State University and, subsequently, completed the Summer Seminar in Military History at the United States Military Academy, West Point. 

In 2013 he joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, 11 NR, Flotilla 10-5 in Fresno, where he serves as Vice Flotilla Commander and FSO-PE.
