COAST GUARD AUXILIARY’S FLOTILLA 62

CROSSING THE BAR

NEW CLASS DATE:    08 JULY 2023 

 

ILWACO Washington- Cape Disappointment Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 6-2, will offer a safely crossing the Bar Class. The class will be taught by certified instructors. The classes being offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary are conducted in person. Class will include questions and answer time.

This class will be held in the Ilwaco Fire station 301 Spruce St Ilwaco WA 98624, class will begin 0900-1200, July 8th 2023, cost will be $35 all course materials will be provided. 

These courses give people time to prepare for this boating season, and also gives folks time to make sure they have the necessary safe boating equipment prior to crossing the Bars.

Be safe out on the water, especially the River Bars! If you are interested in an enjoyable, interactive, in-depth boating safety course, check out this boating skills class. With this class you have the convenience of learning without risk of a bar crossing and with experienced boaters who know what to watch for. Classes include interactive conversations, pertinent sea tales and important demonstrations
with experienced USCG Auxiliarists (not just online readings) and discussions with others enrolled in the class. 

Boaters who have had boater education are better prepared for the risks they may face on the water.

• Cold  water immersion
• Bar descriptions 
• (Columbia River, Tillamook Bay, Willapa Bay, Grays Harbor, others)
• Hazards of the bar or entrances
• Trip Planning
• Navigation tools
• Weather, Tides, Currents
• Safety Equipment
• Boat Types
• Operating in Rough water (out bound, in bound, near the beach)
• Marine traffic (AIS, Rule 9, fog signals)
• Distress signaling
• (Marine Radio, VHF-channel 16, Digital Selective Calling, flares, EPIRB/PLB)
