The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed, all-volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary was created by an Act of Congress in 1939 and has grown to over 32,000 members. The Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard in all its non-combat, and non-direct law enforcement missions. We have Members and Units in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam.

Auxiliary Members conduct Maritime Observation Patrols and Search & Rescue (SAR) operations, Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) Courses, free Vessel Safety Checks, distributes Boating Safety literature to Marine Dealers and other Partners, Pollution Prevention & Response, to name only a few mission areas.

Auxiliarists regularly serve alongside Active-Duty Coast Guard as Communications Watchstander, Passenger Vessel Examiners, Opposing Force training personnel (OPFORCE) for Active-Duty air and surface operations, including environmental protection missions and culinary services. There are nearly two dozen qualifications available to Auxiliarists. Collectively, Auxiliarists volunteer over 4.5 million hours per year and complete nearly 500,000 missions. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is considered to be a true force-multiplier for the United States Coast Guard.

Application for membership in the Coast Guard Auxiliary is open to all U.S. citizens who have attained the age of 17 years. No matter where you live, there is sure to be a Flotilla near you.
