  1. Received about 5 boxes of printed material from the National Supply Center to display at various upcoming PA events.
  2. Received many stickers, etc from the Safe Boating Council, again to display at PA events.
  3. I have been in touch with Senator Guy Reschenthaler's office to try and secure some funding to repair "Coastie'"
  4. Will be meeting with the Army Corps of Engineers to obtain more handouts for our events.
  5. Attended the Pittsburgh Safe Boating Council meeting on 3/7, and discussed the Coast Guard Auxiliary's role in various events.
  6. Immediate event planning is for April 9 at the Millvale site with an opportunity to do some VE;s. Also discussed the Auxilliary's role in  kicking off Safe Boating Week, May 20-26, and the Blessing of the Fleet event scheduled for June 25th.
  7. On March 9th I sat in and participated in a boating safety class given by Anthony Waters, our Division Commander.

ON December 17th I, along with Pat Riley and Ed Kramer, placed wreaths on the graves of our veterans at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Also 2 MSU members joined our group.

DECEMBER 17th is the Wreaths Across America wreath laying ceremony at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Volunteers are needed for the Pittsburgh Boat Show in Monroeville January 13-15, January 20-22

OCTOBER 2016 PA Report

On October 29, we participated in the Mt. Lebanon Pumpkin Patch Parade. Attending  were: Amy "Sammy the Otter" Connolly, Pat Riley, and Thom Spagnol.

November 10, we helped host a Veteran's Appreciation event at the Gardens of Lincoln Court Care

Facility in North Versailles. Mary Scarry, Phyllis Suskey, Mike Ruane, Walter Gretz and I helped give out awards to veteran patients .The event was sponsored by Allegheny Health Network.

November 11, members marched in the City of Pittsburgh's Veteran's Day parade in downtown Pittsburgh. Marchers were: Amy Connolly (As "Sammy"), Ralph Unglo, David Shields, Pat Riley, Greg Knipple, Wayne Stawarz, Geoff D'Aria, and I.

Later that afternoon on November 11, our members attended a second Veteran's Appreciation event sponsored by The Allegheny Health Network, this time at Kane Regional Hospital in McKeesport. Helping out were William Fries, myself, and Dennis Gdovic.

December 17, 2016: Wreaths Across America at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies 1158 Morgan Rd. Bridgeville, PA 15017

January 13-15, January 20-22, 2017: The Pittsburgh Boat Show will be at the Monroeville Convention Center. Friday5pm-10pm, Saturday10am-10pm, Sunday10am-6pm.

PA Action Item List: Need to look in to fixing "Coastie"

  1. I was honored to be asked to photograph the MSU personnel this Friday.
  2. Sent in paperwork to the City of Pittsburgh for our participation in the Veterans Day parade, Friday, November 11 at 9:00 am .
  3. Also sent in paperwork for our participation in the Mt. Lebanon Pumpkin Patch Parade, October 29, at 11am. I have all details, for any interested members.
  4. I will be at the Osage to "winterize" our trailer after all the parades. Cover it and tie down the covers securely.
  5. December 10th, I will be participating in the Wreaths Across America event of laying wreaths on the graves of Veterans buried at the Allegheny National Cemetary near Bridgeville. Details to come.

AUGUST 2016 PA Report

On September 10th we attended the Sewickley Fall Festival. Helping out were Don Straw, Pat Riley, Ed Kramer and Ralph Unglo. Help was greatly appreciated! Special thanks to John Franko and Anthony and Gabby Waters for some last minute deliveries of stickers, wrist bands and coloring books!!

Upcoming events include:

Saturday, September 24th is a Breast Cancer event in North Park,  per Ralph Unglo (helpers are needed)

 Saturday, October 29th we are participating in the Mt. Lebanon Pumpkin Parade with Sammy the Otter

November 11, (or 12) we will be involved in the Veterans Day parade in Downtown Pittsburgh.

 December 10th is the wreath laying ceremony at the Allegheny National Cemetery.

NOTES: I took "Coastie" and stored her in the Osage storage shed. She needs work, including 2 new batteries. After the Veterans Day parade, i will be wrapping our tow-along trailer for a winter rest. I'll be looking into Kiwanis, or other charity organizations to fix coastie.

Also, we need more handouts for 2017 events.
