Be Ready for Hurricane Season

Hurricane Preparedness

 Hurricane as seen from Space

Hurricane Season for the Atlantic Region and Gulf of Mexico Spans from June 1-November 30th.  As residents of the Houston/Galveston area, we must take extra precautions as we prepare for this 6 month span.  Do NOT wait to prepare for hurricane season until a hurricane forms...it is too late then!

Here are some tips to prepare yourself for Hurricane Season

Hurricane Preparedness Week is 26 May - 1 June

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Hurricane Preparedness

The US Coast Guard will account for 100% of their members, including Auxiliary members, in the event a Hurricane threatens the area.  If you are leaving the area at any point between 1 June and 30 November, it is necessary for you to communicate your plans via email or telephone to the Flotilla Commander, Vice Commander, or IPFC.  Your report does not have to be detailed, just the following information:

  1. Where you are going.
  2. The dates you will be gone.
  3.  A contact telephone number.
If the area is within 24 hours of being struck by a hurricane, you will be contacted by the Flotilla Commander, Vice Commander or IPFC.  You MUST provide the following information:

  1. The condition of you and your family (i.e. is everyone safe?)
  2. Are you staying where you are or will you evacuate?
  3. What is a telephone number at which you can be reached after the storm?
