The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the Coast Guard established by Congress in 1939 to assist in promoting boating safety. It boasts nearly 30,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be an integral part of Team Coast Guard. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law-enforcement programs such as search and rescue, aircraft operations, seamanship training, radio and computer operations, public education instruction, aids to navigation, vessel safety checks, support during disasters, marine safety, environmental protection, recruiting assistance and safety patrols. As the roles and responsibilities of the Coast Guard expand under the Department of Homeland Security, the Auxiliary is taking on more non-traditional roles.
Division 6 consists of ten flotillas in the region with 314 members. Each flotilla is responsible for boating safety activities within their respective jurisdictions. For more information, please click on the link to the left called flotillas.
