Boating Safety Information

The Washington Flotilla patrols the Pamlico River during the boating season.  Our area of coverage is from the Washington waterfront to the junction of the Pamlico and Pungo rivers.

The Auxiliary is there for boating safety and help if needed by boaters.  We are available to assist the Coast Guard in search and rescue operations if needed, as well as verification of Aids to Navigation on the Pamlico River and its tributaries.

The Auxiliary does not do any enforcement duties but can suggest that activities are unsafe or illegal.  We are also part of the Waterway Watch program.

The Washington Flotilla conducts free Vessel Safety inspections of boats at the marinas, boat ramps, and at the home of those who wish to be sure that their boats meet Federal Requirements.  We do approximately 300 boat inspections annually.
