25-06 History

Welcome to the History of Flotilla 06 (South Windsor, CT).  This presentation chronicles the activities of Flotilla 06.  Each section of this presentation covers a year of flotilla activity. The first release of this presentation begins with 2010. I have maintained a library of photographs and press releases which capture the events over the years. Additional years will be added.

South Windsor is one of the five flotillas that comprise Division 25 (New London). Division 25 is one of 16 divisions that comprise District 014 First Southern. District 014 is one of 16 districts throughout the United States and its possessions.

For a comprehensive overview of the history of the Auxiliary, the Public Affairs Directorate released a Four Part Presentation on the History of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.  Click on the link below. https://wow.uscgaux.info/content.php?unit=A-DEPT&category=history-1

Brief History of the Auxiliary

Since 1939 the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has safeguarded our Nation’s maritime interests in the heartland, in the ports, at sea, and around the globe. Members from all walks of life bring their training and experience as a member of the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard.

Our main goal is recreational boating safety and education, while acting as a force multiplier in support of Coast Guard authorized missions.

Today’s U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, with nearly 26,000 men and women, is a unique force that carries out an array of responsibilities touching almost every facet of the U.S. maritime environment. The overarching mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the safety and security of our citizens, ports, waterways and coastal regions. We will balance our missions of Recreational Boating Safety and Coast Guard Support with Maritime Homeland Security and other challenges that emerge as a result of our growing understanding of changes required in the post-9/11 era.

The Coast Guard’s motto is Semper Paratus, meaning "Always Ready".
