Welcome to the Flotilla 5-10, District 1SR Web Site

Welcome to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Governors Island Flotilla (05-10), located in the heart of New York City. We are proud to serve as the civilian uniformed volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard. Our primary mission is to support the Recreational Boating Safety Mission of the U.S. Coast Guard while assisting with the security of our citizens, ports, waterways, and coastal regions. Although we do not directly engage in military activities or law enforcement, our dedicated members contribute thousands of hours to bolster the Coast Guard's Maritime Domain Awareness missions. These essential missions include Harbor Patrols on the sea and air, Vessel Safety Examinations, Public Education on Boating Safety, Radio Communications, Search & Rescue operations, and Marine Environmental Protection initiatives.
Our overarching goal is to enhance the safety and enjoyment of all on-the-water experiences for those navigating America's waterways. You might encounter the Auxiliary on patrol along the Hudson River, Upper New York Bay, and New York Harbor in New York City. We are also active at public events, boat shows, schools, and even aerial operations. We welcome new members and encourage active participation to help us achieve our mission.
The Governors Island Flotilla is integral to the New York City Division within the Auxiliary's First District Southern Region. Membership in our Flotilla is open to U.S. citizens aged 17 or older. While ownership of facilities such as a radio station, boat, or aircraft is desirable, it is not a mandatory requirement for membership. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team.
In addition to our official duties, Governors Island Flotilla members actively engage with the community by distributing educational materials at prominent locations such as the Intrepid Air and Space Museum and the New York Boat Show. We take pride in guest lecturing, teaching children about the sea, and promoting environmental conservation. Our commitment to education and outreach helps foster a greater appreciation for maritime safety and environmental stewardship.
Our monthly meetings provide an excellent opportunity for fellowship, training, and planning. These meetings are held at the Coast Guard's Battery Park Building, conveniently located at 1 South Street, New York City. During these gatherings, members share experiences, discuss upcoming missions, and participate in training sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge.
The Governors Island Flotilla is more than just a volunteer organization; it is a community of dedicated individuals united by a common purpose. Our members find fulfillment in serving their community, learning new skills, and building lasting friendships. Whether you are an experienced mariner or new to boating, the Auxiliary offers a unique opportunity to make a difference.
We look forward to welcoming you to our team and working together to advance our mission. Your involvement and contribution are crucial to our success, and we are excited to embark on this journey with you. Thank you for considering joining the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Governors Island Flotilla (05-10). Together, we can ensure safer and more enjoyable waterways for everyone.
