The world’s waters connect and sustain us all. The health and prosperity of our nations depend upon them. Yet, the maritime domain faces myriad challenges, ranging from ensuring boater safety to protecting the environment and swiftly responding to disasters.

The mission of the International Outreach Division is to enhance the safety of the Global Maritime Community through outreach and engagement with international partners.

• Build relationships and facilitate information sharing among partner nation auxiliaries and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) internationally in maritime safety areas, such as recreational boater safety, search and rescue (SAR), marine environmental protection and emergency management.
  
  
• Help build the maritime safety and security capacity of partner nations by assisting them in the formation, management, and growth of volunteer maritime safety and auxiliary coast guard organizations.
  


• Coordinate and provide Auxiliary direct support and augmentation to the U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Defense (DoD) Geographic Combatant Commands (CCMDs) in the areas of international engagement, theater security cooperation, assistance activities, and exercises.
  

Countries that have decided to establish a civilian volunteer SAR group and would like more information on how to get started can make a request for a SMEE (Subject Matter Expert Exchange) through their local U.S. Embassy’s Office of Security Cooperation or Military Group.
