2024 Commander: Sue Hamann, FC and Jaime Reyes Gonzalez, VFCYOUR USCG Auxiliary supports boaters operating around the northern end of Bogue Banks. We also support operations at USCG Station Ft. Macon. This Flotilla attracts its members from the MHC, Beaufort, and adjacent areas.

2017–2023 North Atlantic Right Whale Unusual Mortality Event.  Since 2017, dead, seriously injured, or sublethally injured or ill North Atlantic right whales have been documented, necessitating an Unusual Mortality Event declaration and investigation. 

Offshore speeds reduced through 30APR for calving season 

Mariners are advised to use caution while transiting through NC. Right whales are expected to be encountered offshore and all vessels and mariners are advised to keep a 500 yard distance from the Right whales.

Your U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers you these opportunities:  

Flotilla 054-20-02 Logo
• Fellowship, new friendships, helping others, and working with teams
• Learn and/or instruct Certified Boating Safety classes for the public
• Advanced Auxiliary training in boating skills leading to becoming Crew and Coxswain
• Become a food service specialist and work at Coast Guard Station Ft. Macon or on the Coast Guard Cutters at the Station
• Assist the Coast Guard in the AUXAIR program as an aircraft pilot, crew or observer.  (No experience required for Observer)
• Learn radio communications training and perform communications at USCG station Ft. Macon
• Become a Certified Vessel Safety Examiner
• Be involved in joint training with the U.S. Coast Guard
• Put your skills as an event planner to work on our public events
• Put your writing skills to work in marketing, promotions, advertising, communications, and publications
• Interact with local marine stores and marinas to promote boating safety
• Many other opportunities in human resources, finance, marine safety and the environment, navigation services, public affairs, materials, website development, and more.
