Flotilla Facts
Flotilla 6-3 was chartered on January 19, 1963. Flotilla 6-3 is a descendant of Flotilla 55, the Peninsula's original Flotilla established in 1955 following World War II. As the Auxiliary grew on the Peninsula, additional Flotillas were formed, and ultimately an entire Division - Division 6, was created. The Flotilla has a long history of providing support to the boating public, USCG "small boat stations," Auxiliary and regular Coast Guard commands, and Training Center Yorktown.
The Flotilla normally meets on the 4th Thursday of every month (except November) at the Poquoson Community Center, 49 Odd Road, starting at 7:00 pm. Occasionally meetings are moved for a dinner/social meeting and/or to accommodate schedule conflicts at the Community Center. Check with the Flotilla if you plan to visit. The public and prospective members are always welcome at our meetings. Anyone interested in joining is particularly encouraged to attend, meet our members, and learn more about our Flotilla and the Auxiliary.
Flotilla 6-3 was named the national Boat US "Flotilla of the Year" for 2007 and was named as the 2009 top Flotilla in the country for recreational boating safety by the National Safe Boating Federation.
Flotilla 6-3 is proud of the fact that its members have risen to serve at every level of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's organization, including National Commodore.
The Flotilla is very active in the Hampton Roads area. The Flotilla's boat crew members log many hours underway on patrols, our vessel examiners spent time performing complimentary vessel safety checks, our Program Visitors call on a variety of business locations to distribute safe boating information, our members conduct and receive a variety of training, and our instructors teach various boating and boating safety course. Members also provide direct Operational Support to the Coast Guard. In total, members typically contribute thousands of hours of time each year to Auxiliary missions and administrative tasks.
Our members currently contribute radio facilities and operational (boat) facilities to Coast Guard Forces.
Our members also support the community. The Flotilla has an "Adopt-A-Spot" along a stretch of Odd Road in the area where the Flotilla meets, so several times each year members tend to the cleanliness of the road sides. Below is a pic of the spring 2019 clean up.
