Lake Hopatcong Speed Restrictions

During May 15 to September 15 (the season) on weekends and holidays, speed is restricted to 30 MPH during the day and 10 MPH at night.

When the lake level gage at the dam is over 9.5', no wake is in effect.  Check the Lake Hopatcong Lake Level gage at this link: Lake Gage Level

Hazards to Navigation

When the lake level is below normal there are three sandbars;

  1. One extends from the northeast shore of Halsey Island
  2. Another extends from the eastern side of shore of Lake Forest
  3. A third extends from the eastern side of main lake across from the 'State Park When the lake level is above flood level (9.5') boats that have unusually high Bimini tops should check clearance at the Brady and Riverstyx Bridges
