Monthly Flotilla Meeting

Welcome to the Flotilla 12-08, District 1SR Web Site

About Flotilla 12-08

Welcome to Flotilla 12-08’s Web page. We hope you find this site to be helpful as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and/or a member of the general boating public. Flotilla 12-08 is a unit of Division 12, servicing the northern shore of Long Island in the Queens/Nassau County areas.

We are named the “Fort Totten Flotilla,” and meet at Fort Totten, Bayside, NY in Building 611, on the third Thursday of every month. We share the building with other flotillas and Division12 itself. Our monthly meetings start at 1930, with a member training session. Our meetings are fast-paced, well-organized and widely attended. A common practice in our meetings is welcoming guests.

Flotilla 12-08 is a busy unit in every sense of the word. We traditionally work with other flotillas, especially in the areas of Vessel Examinations and Public Affairs. In the Public Affairs Arena, we traditionally participate in the District 1SR wide events such as Security Watchstanding at the New York City Marathon, manning the Public Affairs Booth at the New York Boat Show, giving ship tours during Fleet Week, and manning the Public Affairs Booth in Manhattan during Fleet Week.

We also took the lead in establishing the Division’s relationship with the Bayside St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. We also with our partner flotillas have traditionally been well represented in the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade. Lastly, we pursue various other smaller Public Affairs events, such as safety presentations to pre-schools and Boy Scout groups.

We feel we have the right personnel in place to handle the challenges of the present and future. Our Flotilla Staff Officer for Program Visitation and Flotilla Staff Office -Diversity for example, is also our Vice Flotilla Commander and while pursuing my duties as Flotilla Commander, I also am the Flotilla Staff Officer for Public Affairs. Personnel Development is one of our highest priorities.

Unless otherwise indicated, our meetings are always open to guests—Auxiliary members and interested prospects. Come to a meeting and join the conversation! You won’t be disappointed!

Respectfully,
Jane Pride
