Monofilament Recycling
PORT CHESTER, NY - U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 71and in-cooperation with Westchester County has installed the first monofilament collection facilities at Playland Pier in Rye, NY. Other locations such as Glen Island in New Rochelle, NY and various locations throughout Westchester and Connecticut will soon follow.
The locations chosen are popular marine fishing spots that will offer anglers a convenient place to dispose of unwanted fishing line easily, and help reduce the dangers to marine life and keep our waters clean.
The BoatU.S. Foundation provided the signage and instruction for the monofilament collection facilities as part of their Clear Water initiation in their Reel In & Recycle Monofilament Recycling Program.
The deposited monofilament will be monitored and collected byFlotilla 71and sent to a recycling center, where it will be weighed, recorded and finally recycled. All materials used in constructing the monofilament collectors were provided and donated by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 71.
