Upper Manhattan Flotilla in New York City, the largest city in the nation!
We are the civilian uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress and today has grown to over 32,000 men and women serving their communities and their country.
While the Auxiliary is not directly involved in military activities or law enforcement, members participate in thousands of hours of support that directly supplements the Coast Guard’s Maritime Domain Awareness missions which include harbor patrols, vessel safety checks and inspections, public education, radio communications, search and rescue and marine environmental protection. The over-arching mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to augment the recreational boating safety mission of the United States Coast Guard as well as assisting with the security of our citizens, ports, waterways and coastal regions.
We conduct vessel safety checks and public education courses on all aspects of boating. Our goal is to help make all on-the-water experiences safer for those who use America's waterways.
In New York City, you may see the Auxiliary on patrol on the Hudson, Harlem or East rivers, at public events, boat shows, in schools or in the air. We welcome new members--if what you see excites and interests you, then please come and join us!
