Boating Safety Classes planned for 2024:

Boat America    Boat America
This beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete About Boating Safely. This course meets NY State requirements for boating and personal watercraft education.

 Introduction to Boating, Boating Law, Navigation,Boat Safety Equipment
 Safe Boating, Boating Problems, Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat
 Hunting and Fishing, Water-skiing and River Boating

Monday, April 22, and Tuesday, April 23, 2024 – 6 to 10 PM both days – 8 hour course.

Price: $30 per person ($20 for each additional family member) - preregistration is required. Please call phone number 631-241-4742 to register! All persons age 10 and up can take the class. Get your Boating Safety Certificate and stay compliant with New York State Law (Brianna’s Law): All persons 46 years old and younger must have a boater safety course certificate to operate a power vessel this year. By January 2025 ALL powerboat operators, regardless of age, must have a boater safety course certificate to operate a power vessel in New York. All jet ski operators (must be 14 yrs or older) must have a boater safety certificate to operate a jet ski regardless of age. Other class dates are forming. Call for more information.

GPS for Mariners    GPS for Mariners plus Basic Navigation
GPS for Mariners (GPSFM) is a modern learning experience that focuses on the GPS equipment typically owned by the recreational boater. Basic Navigation will include planning with paper and electronic charts, plotting a course, determinng your position.

TOPICS INCLUDE:
Part 1 - GPS for Mariners - The recommended presentation of the course involves inviting course participants who already own hand-held GPS units to bring them to the class, increasing interactivity of the educational experience and getting students more involved. However, this class is so effective that even those not possessing handheld units will learn how to use a GPS for practical recreational boating. This will be done the first night.
Part 2 - Basic Navigation - will include planning with paper and electronic charts, plotting a course, determinng your position. This will be done the second night.
