Flotilla Commander

FC Patrick Logan

Mr. Logan joined the Cape Cod Canal Flotilla in the summer of 2009. He first learned about the Coast Guard Auxiliary from a co-worker who did commercial vessel safety inspections for the Auxiliary. Patrick chose to join the Auxiliary to gain valuable experience in the maritime industry, learn more about the Coast Guard and to network with other like-minded people.

Now after many years, Mr. Logan is a qualified Vessel Examiner and Instructor; he also serves as the FSO for Member Training. Mr. Logan completed the Flotilla Leadership Course in 2015 and earned his Master's Degree in 2016. He has a combined 5 year experience in maritime law enforcement. Mr. Logan is also a decorated US Army veteran and deployed to SW Asia in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Currently, he is a small business owner and works for the Commonwealth of MA. Mr. Logan also volunteers his time with the Boy Scouts of America.

 

Vice Flotilla Commander

VFC Thomas Trefny

Mr. Trefny joined the Auxiliary in March of 2023. He is a qualified Operational Auxiliarist (AUXOP), Auxiliary Boat Crew Member and Aids to Navigation Verifier. In 2024, he accepted the appointment of Flotilla Staff Officer-Navigation Systems and will continue in that roll through 2025.  Mr. Trefny is currently working toward becoming a certified boat crew member on STA Cape Cod Canal’s 29- and 45-foot patrol boats.

Mr. Trefny retired from the US Navy in 2022 as Captain, after serving 28 years as a Strategic Sealift Officer in units of the Military Sealift Command, US Forces-Korea; and Naval Cooperation and Guidance of Shipping. He deployed three times to SW Asia and Africa in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Mr. Trefny is a former Merchant Marine Officer with over 15 years of service sailing on Crude Oil Tankers and ships of the Military Sealift Command. He began his career as an Able Body Seaman following graduation from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1988. At the completion of his seagoing career, Mr. Trefny held a US Coast Guard issued Merchant Marine license as Master of Steam and Motor Vessels of any Gross Tons upon Oceans.

Mr. Trefny is currently employed at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI.

Immediate Past Flotilla Commander

IPFC Debra Bryant

Ms. Bryant joined the Auxiliary’s Flotilla 11-08 in 2018 and serves as Vessel Examiner, FSO-IS, FSO-SR, and the outgoing Flotilla Commander. She has also served as the ADSO-SR and is the current SO-VE.

Ms. Bryant was involved in Emergency Medical Services as an EMT, prior to joining the US Army Reserves. She was a medic in the Reserves for 10 years in TX. She deployed to Honduras, C.A. to monitor jobsites for an Engineer Battalion while they were building schools and roads for the local communities after Operation Just Cause.

She transferred to the Army National Guard, where she completed the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy. She went on to attend school at Fort Hood, TX as a Quartermaster, Armorer and HAZMAT certifier. She was deployed as a member of SFOR-7 to Bosnia-Herzegovina for most of the year 2000. She retired from the military in 2003 after 21 years of service.

While in the military, on a part-time basis, she worked full-time for the US Treasury as an Insolvency Manager. She moved back to MA, from Texas, in 2017 after retiring with 30+ years with the Treasury. Within a year after moving back to MA, Ms. Bryant joined the Auxiliary.

Ms. Bryant is now a tax professional with her own business and states ‘it keeps the boat in the water.’
