What is a Vessel Safety check?
A vessel Safety Check ensures the vessel and its equipment comply with federal, state, and local safety requirements. Some of the inspected items include:
- Fire extinguishers
- Backfire flame control

- Lifejackets
- Registration/documentation
- State and local requirements
- Navigation lights
- Proper display of numbers

What does it cost ?
Absolutely nothing. The Vessel Safety Check is a free service provided by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. There is no consequence if you don't pass, however it may bring to your attention critical defects or violations which will prevent costly repairs down the road or possible citations. Our goal is simply to help make boating as safe as possible for you, your family and friends through education.
Who may get a Vessel Safety Check?
A Vessel Safety Check is provided for personal pleasure craft only. This site is not meant to be used to request inspections on commercial boats such as the Six-Pack or Commercial Fishing Vessels.
