As a boat operator, you’re expected to make sure your vessel carries the required safety equipment and complies with federal and state regulations. Before you go out on the water, you should leave a Float Plan with someone you trust. To be sure you’ve included all the necessary information, take a look at the Coast Guard Float Plan. You might also want to keep a sample Pre-Departure Checklist on your boat.
