Vessel Safety ExamKnow Before You Go

The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a free Vessel Safety Check to recreational boaters.

This non- law enforcement check will let the skipper know if he has all the proper equipment on board to meet Federal, State and Local boating regulations. Items that will be checked include:

  • Registration and Numbering
  • Navigational Lighting
  • Life Jackets
  • Ventilation Systems
  • Distress Signals (flares, horn, etc.)
  • Battery Cover & Connections
  • More...

A Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is performed at your boat − ranging in locations from your marina to your driveway. A vessel safety check usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending upon the size of your boat – a small investment of time that can actually save a life.
